Dear Community Members,
A few weeks before Philippine President Duterte’s first State of the Nation Address (SONA), Filipinos in the Bay Area will be gathering to hold a public forum that aims to encourage and sustain the engagement of our kababayans (compatriots) on the current issues in the Philippines, with a special focus on how we can be part of the solutions.
At this community-wide forum, we plan to give a general situationer on the Philippines and who the President-elect Duterte is (for those who are new), and discuss pro-people policies that we hope he will implement. For example, Duterte has promised to prioritize education, health, and OFWs’ rights; to end labor contractualization; and to increase pension for senior citizens. Let us ensure that our voices as Filipinos overseas are heard, that our priorities and challenges are considered, and that we are united in supporting genuine change in the Philippines!
